Windsor Station | Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit

Windsor Station

Located just steps from the Windsor Town Green, the new station opened for passenger service on Saturday, May 31, and enhances access to one of Sonoma County’s most beloved community gathering places—making it easier than ever to enjoy Windsor’s shops, restaurants, and events by train. This latest addition to the SMART rail and pathway network strengthens local and regional connections while advancing sustainable transportation.

Temporary suspension of early morning Windsor service

At the request of the Windsor Town Council, SMART has temporarily suspended three early morning weekday southbound trips departing from Windsor until the Quiet Zone in Windsor is established.

Effective Monday, June 23, southbound trips that are being temporarily suspended are:

  • Trip 1 - departing at 4:35 AM
  • Trip 3 - departing at 4:58 AM
  • Trip 5 - departing at 5:30 AM

These trips will depart from Sonoma County Airport Station at their regularly scheduled times.

The Town of Windsor is in the process of applying to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to establish a Quiet Zone. Once approved and implemented, routine train horn use at designated crossings will be eliminated, except in emergency or safety-critical situations.

Until a Quiet Zone is established, the Federal Railroad Administration requires SMART's engineers to use the train horn when approaching grade crossings. As a result, train horns will be heard from Shiloh Road to the Windsor station.  The Town of Windsor is currently targeting late-July for the implementation of the Quiet Zone.

We understand that this may cause temporary noise disruptions and appreciate the community’s patience as we work to ensure a safe and successful start of service.
