Lillian Hames, General Manager

Ms. Hames is the Project Director for the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) commuter rail project. She reports to the 12 member SMART Board of Directors, appointed from Sonoma County, Marin County and the Golden Gate Bridge District. She is responsible for overseeing the development of the SMART commuter rail corridor. Her responsibilities include directing the on-going rail planning efforts, coordinating the project’s community outreach and education efforts and managing the project’s environmental analysis and preliminary engineering efforts. 

Prior to accepting the Project Director position, Ms. Hames was a principal with Pittman & Hames Associates, a San Francisco based transportation planning firm. In that capacity she specialized in transportation project development, project management and financial analysis. Prior to her career in consulting, Ms. Hames was the Director of Transit Development for the regional transit provider (Tri-Met) in Portland, Oregon. While at Tri-Met she worked on rail corridor financing and project development. Ms. Hames began her professional career with the Portland Planning Commission as a transportation planner working on transit and land use coordination projects. 

Ms. Hames attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and holds a B.A. and M.A. in transportation planning. 

Ms. Hames resides in Greenbrae, California with her husband and two daughters.
